I had the afternoon delight of venturing over to the Princess Diary Cafe with my dear friend Linda, over at Linda Goes East. This definitely has to be the best dress up princess cafe I have ever been to. The staff are super nice and friendly. They speak great English and their help made the experience super enjoyable, easy, and amusing. I would definitely go back again and you should definitely try this cafe! This is a fantastic place to enjoy rosehip tea in the afternoon and be super girly with your friends.

About the Princess Diary Experience

The dresses were very clean and well maintained. None of the dresses looked old and weary. They are very strict about not drinking, eating, going to the restroom and putting on make-up in the dresses. Empty your bladder and take care of your business before getting into a dress. Their policy keeps the dresses clean, beautiful and usable for all guests. Princess Diary gives you a time limit of 1 hour in the dresses, but since Linda and I are bloggers, they let the time limit slide a bit.

One of the staff with take you into the dressing room and help you into the dress of your choosing. They give you an extra bra if you’re wearing a strapless one. Also, your dress size doesn’t matter. They have extensions for the dress and they can add on bows to make the dress look cute and presentable. Under each dress and hanbok, they have under dresses and crinoline to make them more full. I would say the maximum size you can go up to would probably be 14-16 depending on the dress.

When it came time for my tiara, the staff gave me many different options and told me to call them any time I wanted to change for a different one.

Recommendations

Due to the popularity of Princess Diary, I suggest you make a reservation. The staff speak quite a bit of English so they should understand you if you want to make a reservation. When making a phone reservation, speak slowly. My friend Linda and I went at 3 PM and there was no one there. The majority of the guests usually start pouring in around 4 so if you want a couple hours to yourself go around 1-3 PM.

Also, how often do you get to wear a princess dress? If you have a polaroid camera, bring it. You can add your picture to the many displayed all around the cafe. Bring your nice digital camera or your DSLR because this is a photo opp you don’t want to miss.

Princess Diary Cafe Dresses

  • Wedding Dresses 10,000-40,000 won
  • Prom Dresses 10,000-40,000 won
  • Short Dresses 10,000- 35,000 won
  • Hanbok 15,000- 45,000

The cheapest dresses you can rent are 10,000 won. They have about 4-5 dresses to choose from. The most lovely dresses are on display outside the closet. To rent those dresses, it costs 40,000 won. Believe it or not, the dress I chose was only a whopping 10,000 won and I love the color purple. The majority of the dresses are wedding dresses, but there are some Asian style dresses which I didn’t find cute.

When you are in the closet selecting your dresses, there is color coded tape on top of each hanger with the price of the dresses. Brown means 10,000 won and blue is 25,000 won. The more beautiful, beaded, frilly and lovely a dress is, the more pricey it is.

Princess Diary Cafe Seoul Hanbok

They have a super cool system where there have been pictures taken of the hanbok. The skirts and tops are coded into 15,000-30,000 won baggies. You can mix and match which skirt and top you like the most and pay for the one you like. Just remember, the nicer the hanbok, the more it costs.

Photo Zones

They have more Princess zones featuring a piano, mirror, ornament tree by the drink making station. The don’t have much for the Eastern zones. It’s just a small corner with a beautiful wooden door, dresser, and a room with hanging beading, a tiger rug, and kisaeng hats (Kisaeng are equivalent to geisha in Japan).

Overall Feel

I definitely think Princess Diary is an amazing way to spend your afternoon or with girlfriends. They have tons of props you can play with from bouquets to flower crowns. There’s something in there for everyone’s taste. The dresses are well taken care of and maintained. None of them seemed dirty, ugly, or out of date. Don’t miss out on Princess Diary if you want to channel your inner royalty for the afternoon.

How To Get There

Getting there is super easy. Get off Line 2 and walk out Exit 2 or 3. Walk two blocks down and turn right into the alley. Look up at the sign. You can’t miss it! It’s right above a Bingsu cafe as well.
