As humans we are all drawn to water. The human body is made of water, we need water to live, and water is healing. Mother Earth knew what she was doing when she graced us with two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen. I couldn’t help being drawn by a romantic city by the ocean. Can you feel it? The fresh ocean breeze and the scent of salt in the air. Breathe it in and let it fill you with pleasantry.

While Seoul may take the reigning cake for date spots, off the beaten path and away from the yellow dust and smog of lies Oido–a city by the sea.

Located on the west coast of Korea’s Gyeonggi Province, Oido is a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. Fun fact about Oido: more than 200 dinosaur eggs were discovered in 1999. You can date with confidence knowing you were chillin’ where these big reptiles fornicated millions of years ago. If that won’t convince you the love pheromone is in the air, I don’t know what will.

Dock On The Sea

When you get off at Bedari Seonchakjang ė°°ė‹¤ė¦¬ģ„ ģ°©ģž„, walk across the street toward the dock. It’s a mesmerizing place to be right on the water without getting wet. It’s also magnificent for pictures. If you’re with your boo, immortalize your love with a lock on the Oido Dock’s special stand. Seriously, this should be the new Namsan Tower.

Oido Board Walk

Before you get to the lighthouse, there’s plenty to do and plenty of selfie taking opportunities. There’s four outlooks with a different statue at each. My favorite was the illuminate tree at dusk after the wind blew itself out, the tide went out, and the crowds dissipated.

Oido Red Lighthouse

The cream of the crop, the lighthouse is the final romantic destination. Be ready to climb a bunch of stairs, but the view it worth it. I think late evening is the most romantic setting.

Oido Cheesy Clams and Scallops

After all that walking and romantic dating, I’m sure you’re famished and ready to chow down. What could be more lovely than an all you can eat clam barbecue and ice cold beer? There are many famous shops along the main strip which are sure to be overpriced, but if you walk a little further away you’ll get some cheesy clam for a good price. Aaron and I stopped at Cheongchun Jogae ģ²ģ¶˜ģ”°ź°œ and opted for all you can eat which was 25,000 won per person. Can you say yum?

  1. Looks like a great time! I’m also in Korea and currently live on the southern coast in Yeosu so I am very much looking forward to beach weekends very soon! šŸ™‚

    • I’ve been wanting to go to Yeosu so bad! Do you have any posts about awesome places there on your blog?

  2. Love your logo šŸ™‚ – did you do the artwork yourself? It’s really cool. Some really places you mentioned here – beautiful pictures; very romantic indeed šŸ™‚

    • Actually, I didn’t! My good friend Izzy from the blog The Next Somewhere made it for me! She’s super talented and you should check out her blog. It’s well written and the pictures are amazing! Thanks so much for the read! <3

  3. What a fun place to go on a date! I love that all the little places in Korea has cute things to do, like ‘lock your love’ with a padlock.
And I know my husband would love that seafood meal šŸ˜‰

    • This would be so fun to go to with your husband! I really loved Oido and I would totally go back again! You can definitely work up an appetite by the ocean!

  4. Awww ish! I wish I had known that Oido existed, would’ve loved to take my man to that cute lighthouse! I completely agree with you about the importance of water. My whole life, I’ve lived near the ocean and when I lived in Korea, I felt a strange disconnect to the environment, like something was missing from me. The only body of water near us was a large river and I always migrated there but I missed the ocean so much. The 200 dinosaur eggs fun fact is pretty cool! I didn’t know that Korea was a big paleontology site?!? And cheesy scallops are really popular here in Vietnam too although every food guru I watch forbids it and calls it absolute shit haha but I’m so curious ;P

    • I always love getting comments from you! They make me smile. I only lived by the ocean a short period of my life and that was when I lived in Okinawa. I’ve always been landlocked (coming from the Midwest) so living by the ocean was an entirely new experience for me! I love rivers and mountains. I just like nature in general, so stick me where the nature is and I’ll be frolicking all day. I didn’t know Oido was a big paleontology site myself, but I guess the dinos knew what was up when they were fornicating there. Lol. I love cheesy clams and scallops! Those food gurus are missing out of the deliciousness cheese brings! Hahaha.

    • Unfortunately we didn’t! šŸ™ I didn’t know you could! I learned something new though! If we get a craving for the ocean and seafood, we’ll go again! šŸ˜€
