I can’t speak for everyone when I write this post, but I can say dating my Korean boyfriend, Aaron is awesome. Do I love him because he’s Korean? Well, no. I love the part of him that is Korean because it makes our relationship unique. Like every couple, we have our ups and downs. He drives me crazy sometimes, but I’m blessed to have my weirdo partner in crime.
You may have fallen in love with Korean men you see on the dramas with their flawless complexions, great smiles and for being adorable boyfriends. While all men are different and it’s unfair to overgeneralize Korean men into one category, I can say a few things ring true when it comes to dating a Korean man. Here’s five reasons why dating a Korean guy is awesome.
Delicious Korean Food
If you love extremely flavorful food whether it be spicy or fermented, then you will love having a Korean boyfriend! He will take you out for barbecue and all sorts of delicious stews. For me, Mexican and Italian food are also full of flavor that keep me wanting more so it was only a matter of time before I discovered Korean food was my spirit food. Dating a Korean man is for the foodies and adventurous because you never know what you’ll discover with your Korean man.
Korea is couple central with apps like Between, couple phone cases, rings, shoes, etc. You mention it and Korea has it. Whether your Korean boyfriend wants to admit it or not, he secretly loves the idea of couple things and with enough “persistence” will eventually bend to your will. Aaron got us couple t-shirts and I will have to admit they’re probably the coolest thing we own. We’re not into the mushy stuff and we always get compliments on our shirts. Seriously though… It takes a real man to put on a Tuxedo Mask costume. #justsayin
Koreans are all about showing who is dating who. I can always expect Aaron to put his arm around my waist or hold my hand. He’ll always lend me his shoulder on the train and make sure I’m safe when walking the on the roads or crossing the street. In America, I’m very aware not to be one of those annoying couples who are all over each other in public. In Korea, I find myself caring less about what others think and holding my boyfriend on the train. I like sending out the statement, “This is mine.”
Korean men can be super thoughtful as I found out on my birthday. They will take the time to plan something nice and put work into it. It’s ingrained into them to treat their lady like the princess she is. Korean dramas are dramas because everything is exaggerated, but there is some truth behind the romantic gestures and flowers. Just know that your hunk is thinking about you and will show you his love and tell you about it.
I’m not gonna say every man is the same because they’re not, but when you give a man a challenge, he’ll accept and try to overcome it. If Aaron really upsets me, he’ll do his best to remedy the situation. If I want to take a million photos, he’ll do it. If I want to shoot a YouTube video, he’ll help me. He’s changed into a better man in more ways than one and he continues to push himself to become a better man that I can admire every day.
Dating the male species is never an easy thing and if they’re from a different culture, it can be quite challenging. I’m shamelessly admitting couple everything is my favorite and going out to eat delicious food. If you’re dating a Korean guy, what are your favorite things about them? Would love to hear your feedback.
