I know beauty differs in the east and west, but let’s be real. The pursuit of beauty will always be a lifelong endeavor for the fairer sex. Like most Korean women, I ardently feel the need for youthful, beautiful and acne free skin. (I think living in Asia for 5 years caused me to be just as obsessed.) Every woman on the planet has gone through a cycle where we feel like queens and other days where we go, “Ew, gross.” Don’t deny it. I grossed myself out at my own reflection yesterday. I’ve always wondered if there was a way to stop breakouts in their tracks and if there was a way to quickly peel off my hyper pigmentation. And I’ll be honest when I tell you I pop my pimples and I don’t wait for them to simply go away. Little did I know, there is a way to do it safely, cheaply and effectively in Korea.

People travel for all sorts of different reasons whether it be for pleasure, business or medical. Language barriers and medical practices are effing scary. As a foreigner, sometimes I feel beauty is only for Koreans and their dreamy complexions are something I can never achieve since communication is an issue. However, Eunogo is Korea’s premium health, wellness, and medical concierge service. Founded by Joy and Sophia, they had a vision to create a safe and reliable platform for foreigners to go through their medical journey in Korea. Eunogo is certified by the Korean government for being the go-to service to find high quality services, facilities and doctors. About Seolleimpibugwa (설레임피부과)

Right when I walked in, I immediately felt at home. The place was large and spacious with wall length windows to let plenty of natural lighting in. Can you say perfect selfie? Since Eunogo is all about hooking it up, I had the best translator! She was so friendly and super dedicated to making sure I knew what was going on. She helped me fill out the forms, translated everything the doctor said, and made sure all my questions and concerns were taken care of. They have also been featured on KBS which is pretty darn cool! If you’re interested in having this treatment, you can check out the full package here.

The Consultation

If you’re like me you’re probably thinking–hallelujah! I made it through the teen years so no more acne. Wrong. Adult acne is a very, very real thing, and in my opinion, is the body’s way of insisting you carry on the human race. (While you’re sitting there trying to walk to the beat of your own drum without the burden of ankle biters.) Womp. Womp. Raise your hands if hormonal acne ruins your week. The fact I have such bad acne on my jawline is the reason I needed to see a skin specialist in the first place.

My translator provided by Eunogo was so awesome when helping me out. She would listen intently to the doctor and then ask her to stop at certain points so she would translate exactly what was being said. She would then translate what I said to the doctor. The doctor explained hormonal acne is due to many factors such as environment, internal happenings, diet, stress, etc. It’s hard to pinpoint the exact reason why these things happen.

The Procedure

First, my makeup was removed. Since I went in not wearing any, all they had to do was remove my lipstick. Gotta love a morning cleansing so that your skin feels ready to start the day! After my skin was cleaned, I was lead into another room where photos were taken of my skin. This was for the doctor’s benefit to keep a record of my improvements and skin fluctuations.

Have you ever watched the wildly popular YouTube channel, Dr. Pimple Popper? I didn’t even know this existed until a friend of mine introduced me to the wonderful world of extracting all the nasties in our pores. And according to Yoda, extract my nasties, the beautician did. She reminded me again there would be some pain and got to work. She took a tiny needle and made incisions in my pores. According to them, when you make a tiny incision and then extract, there’s less of a chance of scarring. Then, she took the special tool to press down and remove all the gunk in my pores. She then took sterile cotton pads and cleaned my skin afterward. Rinse and repeat.

Since this was my first time, I didn’t know how much pain to expect. Some parts of my face hurt worse than others like my cheeks and upper part of my jawline. Other than that, the pain was tolerable. Honestly, the incisions hurt more than the extractions. Also, in a strange way, it was a bit relaxing because I know I usually break out terribly around my period and it was nice knowing these white heads would be taken care of before they had time to surface and ruin my day.

If you’re the queasy type, don’t look at the photos, but if you’re curious, by all means, look on.

I had a hate/love relationship with this part. I knew she was removing white and blackheads I didn’t even know I had hence giving me peace of mind to know I wouldn’t have really bad future breakouts. The stress of getting really nasty white and blackheads around that magical uterus punching time was lessoned and I felt calm knowing my skin was becoming more clean. After the extraction was finished, the beautician told me she had been thorough but there could have been some hidden whiteheads and blackheads she didn’t catch. This could lead to future breakouts. If you’re thinking, “Yes, please. Get ALL the shit out of my pores!” then check out the services here.

Now, I know my skin looks all sorts of messed up, but I promise, they didn’t leave me hanging. After all that extraction, it felt sore, swollen and a bit warm to the touch. Aloe gel and a cooling mask were applied and let me tell you–heaven comes in very small forms on earth, but the cooling mask is a godsend. P.s. Jason called and says he wants a cooling mask pack as well.

Once my irritated skin cooled and felt better, the doctor came in and began to inject the really bad pimples with a anti inflammatory serum. If you’re like me and hate needles, you’ll be squirming a little. I can take a pinprick to the face but an injection is another story. It hurt a tiny bit since I wasn’t mentally prepared but I was excited that my pimples would look better in about a week.

Jessner Peel

What is this you may ask? It’s a chemical facial peel that goes down medium length. It’s used to treat acne scarring, hyper pigmentation, and sun damage. The chemical peel and some tissue were applied to my face. I was given some ice packs to pat on in case it got uncomfortable. The sensation of the peel is very close to a sunburn. You know that feeling you get when you’ve been out in the sun too long and you’re already burned and the sun is burning you more? It felt like that minus the redness. Having the icepack was a godsend and after five minutes, it was removed. Here’s the fun part. I was put under a blue light lamp to help with swelling. After, toner and sunscreen were applied. I was sent out with instructions not to drink or put makeup on.

Throughout the week, I didn’t peel as much as I thought I would. Most of the peeling was on my jawline which is good because that’s where I needed it the most. The beauticians warned me again I may have some breakouts. There was some soreness the day after from the pressure used to remove the impurities. I felt some dryness because of the peel, but I used a lot of sunscreen and moisturizer to help me not scratch and keep my hands off my face.

Even though I was warned there would be some breakouts, I had a few here and there but it was nothing like I would expect and get while on my period. As I’m currently on that magical (NOT) time, I haven’t experienced any breakouts on my jawline and it’s amazing!

The hyper pigmentation on my skin isn’t completely gone, but it looks a lot better than it did originally. I’ll probably have to keep going in for pimple extractions and peels in order for it to be more effective, but so far the results are pretty good.

Cost

The cost of treatment is about $150 per visit. This includes the consultation, pimple extraction, cooling mask, anti inflammatory serum, Eunogo translator, Jessner peel, and light at the end. The service was really top notch and I enjoyed my experience there. The official name for this treatment is called the Blooming Cell Skin and Detox and if you’re all about fighting for your right for beautiful skin, then I definitely recommend this.

How to Get There

Walk out of Gangnam Station, exit 3. Make a u-turn out of the building and walk a minute. You’ll see a Krispy Kreme on your lefthand side. Walk into that building. Getting to the building is easy enough from the station. Going up to the right floor was a tad confusing. When I stepped into the elevator, my confused foreigner self was trying to figure out the button to push since the number four was notably absent. A kindly gentleman helped me push the button F and then I remembered four means death in Korea. Don’t be a rookie and make my mistake/.

2 Comments on Jessner Peel and Pimple Extraction with Eunogo

  1. Wow. I’d love to undergo these treatment for my acne which becomes so bad when I’m on my period. I’ve always wondered what’s the secret to the beauty to Asian women and even the men, now I know. They take care of their skin extraordinarily. Besides the injection part too, I think a Jessner peel and pimole extraction would do for me. Also, I liked that Eungo has a top notch customer services and helped you bridged the language gap. I’d be worries about that.

  2. This is great! The result looks pretty good. I’ve heard about Jessner Peel before but I don’t know anyone who has tried it yet but I would definitely recommend this to some of my friends. I guess the cooling mask was the best part of the treatment. 🙂
