When one thinks the Ritz Carlton, the first thoughts that come to mind is, “Luxury, Elegance, Excellence.” (And if you’re also thinking Ritzy, you got that right, homie.) I know I’m not the only foodie out there who stalks beautiful restaurants on Instagram and drools from the food… Like, who wouldn’t enjoy an afternoon tea part at the Lobby Lounge Ritz Carlton Tokyo?

Afternoon tea is a tradition that started in the West and was perfected in the East. At the Ritz Carlton Tokyo, you’re going to get views for days while having a relaxing tea. Let’s be real. If you’re visiting Tokyo, you want to get as high as possible with the best views. Since it’s situated in the middle of the super luxurious Roppongi Hills, you’re going to get nothing but the best afternoon tea at the Ritz. In the words of Frank Sinatra, “Nothing but the best is good enough for me.”

The Menu

One of my favorite parts about living in Asia are the seasonal fresh fruits, veggies, and seafood that come along with the dishes.

When I made the reservation, Rie was super accommodating. She asked if I had any dietary restrictions and what they could do to help. The chef at the Lobby Lounge even made special dishes just for me without any chicken, beef or pork. She even went out of her way to make me feel super comfortable and join me for tea.

Like seriously, how nice as that? As a solo traveler, I rely heavily on meeting people through apps or as I go along. Also, there was so much food, I couldn’t possibly have finished it myself so I was very glad for the company.

One of the best parts about cuisine in Japan is about bringing subtle flavors together to bring you amazing dishes that coincide with flavors and tastes so perfectly. The Ritz Carlton Tokyo afternoon tea menu includes the best seasonal ingredients.

Rie also told me about the selection of the tea plate and how it is based off a 鳥かご or bird cage to make the food look even more delicious. I have to say, I quite agree since the food looked more beautiful and delicious in the tray. Now, let me tell you, the food tasted as good as it looked. It’s hard to pick a favorite because I sincerely loved it all.

Fun Fact: A lot more work that meets the eye goes into making a high tea menu from the initial start ups to a pastry chef and executive chef creating the dishes.

What’s even better about the afternoon tea at the Ritz Carlton is the fact you can try many different kinds of tea. I loved all the teas I tried, but my favorites were the Ritz Carlton special blend and the strawberry and champagne one. One of the things I really missed about Japan was the tea drinking culture. Koreans drink too much coffee, and I honestly prefer something with less sugar, calories, and an excellent taste.

Before the main event was served, we were also introduced to many different jams for the scones (which were crispy, and buttery and the perfect texture) and side snacks.

Afternoon Tea Attire

While at the Ritz Carlton, they suggest that you wear casual elegance. This means you can’t go up there looking like a bum. I want you to think Edwardian Era simplistic beauty. Okay, maybe not that crazy, but you get the gist. While there, I wore a pink princessy skirt, white long sleeved top, white hair bow, and gold flats. You know, just so you can get an idea of what to wear to high tea in Tokyo. 😉

The Atmosphere

At the heart of the expansive 45th floor, you’re going to get visual hangovers for days. High tea in Tokyo is an experience because there was even a live piano performance for entertainment.

With panoramic views, you can unwind and enjoy the interior decorating which blends red, black, purple, and white monotones that blend in with the urban atmosphere of Tokyo.

In my not so humble opinion, this is one of the best places for afternoon tea in Tokyo, Japan.
