I think it’s safe to say around this time of year, everyone needs a vacation or a staycation. As a self proclaimed Seoulite, I’m in the big city almost every weekend. Sometimes I just need a place to relax and stay after a long day of hanging out with my friends at a Line Cafe or shopping  and eating cupcakes in Hongdae. For those of you who don’t know, Seoul is a very loud city. The hustle and bustle of the cars come alive all hours of the day while shops crank up their music to attract customers.

Cue Hotel Maui, nestled away in a quiet neighborhood by Dongmyo Station. If you’re looking for a cozy place and find it hard to sleep with loud noises, but still want to be right in the center of Seoul, then you should take a closer look at this cute hotel.

The walk from the station is very short and the video and PowerPoint with directions provided to me by the friendly hotel staff made navigation effortless. Upon arrival, I noticed how brand new and clean the place looked. The front has a patio and nearby there’s a convenience store. Koreans love their chicken and beer so you can enjoy a party on the patio with your bad old self if you feel like it. When I entered Hotel Maui, I was greeted by hearty Christmas decorations and the staff who made check-in just as easy as getting there. Here’s five reasons why Hotel Maui should be on the top of your booking list if you’re a budget traveler.

Cozy Room Atmosphere

I ordered a double room and when I walked I felt right at home. The bed was firm which was amazing for my back. One of my favorite parts of Korea are the heated floors which kept my toes nice and toasty. In addition, Hotel Maui is making an effort towards being eco-friendly because the key fits into a slot that controls the electricity. The room is painted a pastel green color with hanging lights giving it a relaxing aura.

The Bathroom

As the hotel industry expands, it’s standard to have great smelling shampoos, conditioners and body wash. Just an FYI rinse is Konglish for conditioner. Everything smelled like a sweet aroma of happiness. Also, the bathroom is almost as big as the actual room itself and as a woman, our getting ready time is sacred. The bigger the space, the happier of a camper we are.

The Rooftop

Did anyone say party in Korea? The ROK has some of the best parties I’ve ever been to. On the roof, you can enjoy the scenic night time views with the umbrella and picnic table. For guests that are staying awhile, they also provide washing machines and drying racks after 4pm.

The Location

I really enjoyed how quiet and quaint this hotel was. The neighborhood is quiet so you don’t hear any shenanigans going on. There’s a few Korean and Western restaurants located all around if you get hungry. Also, there’s a local market where you can bargain your face off for the best deals and it’s close to Cheonggyecheon Stream where you can enjoy the Seoul Lantern Festival and Christmas Illuminations. It’s also one stop away from Dongdaemun where you can enjoy more shopping and the Design Plaza.
