It’s hard to rank my favorite afternoon teas after all the incredible experiences I had while traveling to Japan. I would have to put the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo as one of the top three afternoon teas in Tokyo. What a treat it was to experience afternoon tea at Mandarin Oriental Tokyo because of how luxurious the setting and food are.

When I travel, part of the charm of traveling is to have a wonderful experience. The way you’re treated by people in your host country, the way someone helps you at a train station, and even where you go to eat make an enormous impact on how you view the country.

Right when I walked into the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo Hotel, I was greeted by the super friendly staff who kindly explained how to get to The Lounge on the 38th floor. It was then I knew that everything about the experience was going to be uber special.

The Menu

In my honest opinion, go big or go home. The premium Mandarin Oriental High tea set is literally to DIE FOR.

If you have any dietary restrictions, be sure to call or email any of the Mandarin Oriental restaurants ahead of time so they can make arrangements for your dietary needs.

As always, the menu changes every season to accommodate for what is in season and creativity. Check out the Mandarin Oriental afternoon tea menu here.

While I was tasting the premium strawberry afternoon tea, the sweet selection included:

  • Lemongrass Tart with Fresh Strawberry
  • Pistachio Pound Cake with Strawberry Jam
  • Mousse with Strawberry Confit and Truffle

With all these exquisite sweets, kiss heaven hello and your waistline goodbye. But it doesn’t stop there. No Mandarin Oriental high tea is complete without scones. For the scones selection, I had:

If you’re not drooling or inspired or even over the moon after looking at all these strawberry paradise foods then…. You’re not human! Jk. But for real. This afternoon tea was INCREDIBLE. I never knew so many things could be made from strawberries. Sky is the limit with your imagination.

Dress however you want that’s set to your flavor. I personally love to dress up and wear pretty things while going to fancy places. Here, I’m wearing a white fuzzy sweater, deep crimson skirt, tights and boots.

The Atmosphere

I’d have to say for viewpoints, Mandarin Oriental has the best ones. The way the hotel was constructed was in the concept of a tree. They took the Japanese love for nature and embedded it into the hotel. The concept of the 37th and 38th floor is like a tree. They wanted to have nature be a big part of the luxury feeling and I couldn’t love it more.

BRB. Being bougie af.

I’m always attracted to water. It’s hard to explain, but I just love to be near it. Maybe from my experiences in Okinawa, traveling to ocean locations, or growing up with Lake Michigan as my neighbor, there’s something beautiful about water.

Being near water for me induces a calmness and ease of mind and I would so totally go back to have a drink on the 37th floor while looking at the dazzling views of Tokyo.

I really adored the atmosphere of the Mandarin Oriental. I’ve always felt a part of me belonged in the East and the Asian decor in there was so lovely from the warm orange colors to the fan lights on the ceiling.
