I’m a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world. Life in plastic, it’s fantastic. Everyone knows this song and ever since the Barbie Movie came out, we all wanna be like the iconic doll. She has everything. Barbie has planes, luxury cars, dream homes, designer clothes, and boyfriends. Who wouldn’t want to be Barbie? Now you can be in your own Barbie World with Barbie Salon de Ddalki at JW Marriott Dongdaemun.

Come on doll, let’s rock and roll, feel the glamor in pink. Korea is known for having incredible themed cafes. For the 2023-2024 season, the Barbie Salon de Ddalki is going Givenchy at JW Marriott Dongdaemun.

When you hear JW Marriott Dongdaemun Seoul a few things come to mind—luxury getaway, comfort, and modernity. You get five star amenities and second to none hospitality. From The Lounge on the first floor, there’s a stunning view of the Heunginjimun Gate.

Strawberries are Sweeter with Barbie in Korea

Strawberries in Korea are pretty darn bomb. In America, strawberries are more sour. If I wanted them sweet, I had to sprinkle on sugar and ferment them in the fridge a couple days. That’s not the case in Korea. They taste naturally sweet and they’re so fresh.

In Korea, I’ve eaten strawberries as big as the palm of my hand. Winter is one of my favorite times per year because Christmas in Korea is a magical event with all the festivals, Christmas lights, and afternoon teas. Plus, it’s strawberry season and though they are expensive af, it’s totally worth it!

Korean strawberries have dominated the market and now they’re counted as the sweetest in the world. A lot of fine dining restaurants in New York also import these strawberries from Asia because as I said before, they’re that epic.

Barbie Salon de Ddalki

Ddalki means strawberry in Korean. This brunch is a collaboration with Barbie which makes it 10x better because everything is pink and you will find her everywhere. This is better than going to have tea with your American Girl Doll at the American Girl Doll Restaurant in downtown Chicago. Sometimes adulting has its perks.

You’re not only eating desserts, but you’re also getting your drink choice from sparkling wine to delicious parfaits, a main dish, and your choice of coffee or tea at the end.

The servers are dressed to fit the occasion as well. You’re literally gonna fan boy or fan girl with all the adorable Barbies and Kens walking around. Every detail for this event is on point.

My personal favorite dessert was the cheesecake with strawberries on top, the macaroons (seriously they suck in Korea and the JW Marriott Dongdaemun does them right), and the pink fondue fountain. If you have a sweet tooth like I do, then this is something you NEED to go to.

Photo Ops

Let’s be real. We put our entire lives on social media. Would it really be Korea if there wasn’t a photo zone? Every year the theme is different and it has been a tradition of mine and Linda’s from Linda Goes East to go. After all, it’s more important than ever to get your Barbiecore on.

Who doesn’t love multitudes of pink, Barbie, and dessert? I can’t think of many other things better than Korean strawberries, chocolate sauce, and cake.

This is one of my favorite things to do in Seoul with friends. It’s great to hang out with your girlfriends or celebrate a special occasion. Salon de Ddalki is vegetarian friendly. If you have special dietary restrictions, let the staff know in advance.
