Situated in the Toranomon Hills near Ginza, lies Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills. As a luxury boutique hotel by Hyatt, you know you’ll be getting the very best dining with Andaz Tokyo Afternoon Tea.
The Andaz is known as being a brand of luxury and lifestyle that weaves the sights, sounds, and tastes of each property’s surroundings for the most unique stay. Here, you’re able to really get a feel of Japan without really having to leave the property.
If you want the very best afternoon tea in Tokyo, look no further my friend, for Gina Bear always has you covered. I didn’t become much of a foodie until I was older. My relationship with food drastically changed from my young twenties until now. It went from eating a lot of meat and cheap food to overeating to compensate for my unhappiness in Okinawa. Then I shifted to becoming vegetarian, cooking for myself, and finding a healthy relationship with nourishment.

Food made with care and love is what I often seek and I love blends of food from East and West. I feel a connection with the food because as a blend of East and West myself, I can relate. I feel like fusion food with the best of both worlds.
The Menu
It’s super cold in Tokyo and what better way to escape the cold than to divulge in sweet chocolate and vanilla at The Tavern Lounge? This afternoon tea is inspired by French creations and infused with Japanese tastes. Everything here is an experience but high tea in Ginza Tokyo is no exception.
With the afternoon tea, I really wanted to indulge in something delicious and satisfying. Some of the sweet creations included a vanilla pudding and a super cute mini cream cone with chocolate bits at the top. I really enjoyed the savory sandwich which was a grilled vegetable mini burger complete with beet mayonnaise.
Also, The Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills was kind enough to take my dietary restrictions into account and excluded any dishes with any meat including, beef, pork, chicken, and duck. If you’re a pescatarian or vegetarian like me, then I would definitely count this as vegetarian afternoon tea in Tokyo. Just make sure you email or call in advance so the chefs can make preparations and accommodate.
Like everything in Japan, food changes with the seasons. The menu for afternoon tea is no exception so each season is going to bring an incredible creation. For a full list of the afternoon tea menu at Andaz Tokyo, click here.
If you’re interested in sakura afternoon tea in Tokyo, I also recommend going to the Andaz. Since it is a special and seasonal menu, it’s only available from late March to early April on the rooftop. (Pssstttt. You’ll be getting even better views in Tokyo.)

Afternoon Tea Attire
Did you know in Hindi Andaz means having your own personal style? Going to the Andaz is all about being yourself with a mix of your surroundings. I felt super comfortable and I decided to wear a white fluffy long sleeved sweater, red skirt, black tights, and combat boots. After all, girly with a bit of edge is my style.
The Atmosphere
At The Tavern Grill & Lounge, they specialize in grilled dishes accompanied by a modern lineup of quality aged meats, seared to perfection in their lava stone broiler grill. There you can enjoy quality meat aged for 25 days in the Yukimuro refrigerator. In other words, after tea, you should definitely try out the quality and speciality meats. 😉
Right when I walked into the elevator, I knew I was in for a treat. There was an exquisite piece of 3D artwork with fish, flowers, and other Japanese symbols.
The dining room is no different. The ceiling displays beautiful wooden carvings that were heated to high degrees and then shaped to be similar to the path birds take when they fly.
I loved how the chairs near the window were red as it is one of my favorite colors and gave a pop of color to a restaurant so high up.

High tea in Tokyo is a wonderful experience and I really loved the care that was put into the food at The Tavern Grill & Lounge at Andaz Tokyo. The views were also pretty awesome since the windows were so big and I had one of the best seats in the house all to myself. If you like a clash of modern with culture then you’re going to really enjoy the atmosphere and what the Andaz Tokyo has to offer.
Gina Bear was invited to afternoon tea at the Andaz Tokyo. As always, all thoughts and opinions remain my own.
