Mentally, I wish it would be the fall season all year long. I love to read and it’s safe to say I’ve spent the majority of mine finding the best spicy autumn romance books to read this fall.

I am a lover of all things autumn. There’s nothing like watching trees change vibrant colors of red, yellow, and orange.

The Pumpkin Cream Cold Brews from Starbucks along with the Target autumn collection is also always a dream! I am but a humble English major who loves to read at night and while traveling. I’m here to share spicy romance book recommendations with my audience.

So grab your pumpkin spice latte and fuzzy socks. Don’t forget your fuzzy blanket and fireplace vibes as you cozy up with the perfect book for this autumn season.

1. Autumn Nights: A Single Dad Sports Romance

The first time I saw this book, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to get into family drama and sports romances…. But I’m glad I did.

Autumn Nights by Willow Aster is about  Zac Ledger and Autumn Winters who met at her sister’s wedding the previous year. Zac is a 29-year-old football star for the New England Patriots and 23-year-old Autumn works for an interior design firm (Winthrop Design).

Autumn not only falls in love with Zac but his adorable deaf daughter Ivy too. Throw in a jealous baby mama and a bunch of obstacles and you have yourself a *chef’s kiss* autumn romance.

2. A Match Made in Autumn

A Match Made in Autumn by Jessica Booth is the perfect feel-good small-town autumn romance. Rhett has a secret crush on autumn-loving Amelia, but one embarrassing incident in high school makes them actively avoid one another for the rest of their lives.

Amelia, Beth, and her feisty aunt then take over the annual North Louisiana fall festival and hope to give it new life. The road is rather bumpy when the rumored town witch tries to sabotage it.

Rhett is now the local newspaper reporter and on the cusp of a divorce when he starts investigating a cold case of a boy who went missing 20 years prior. This murder mystery leads Rhett to the town fair and Amelia.

3. A Cup of Autumn

A Cup of Autumn by Melissa McClone is about an elite university professor named Keaton Andrews, who has just had his academic department cut, and Raine Hanover, a barista at the local coffee shop.

Keaton finds Raine stunning, but she’s taking a break from romance and focusing on running her increasingly busy coffee shop. Raine gets voluntold to run the town’s Halloween Bash and Keaton jumps in to help her.

4. Maple Sugar Crush

Maple Sugar Crush by Beth Labonte is the second book in her series. I enjoy love stories with the fake girlfriend/fake boyfriend trope so if you like it too, this one is definitely a treat!

The book follows Powerball winner Josie Morgan who finds more heartbreak than happiness in dating. She has resolved to run the Pumpkin Everything country store and live her best single life.

Not wanting to fuck around and find out what thirsty cretins her mother invites to Thanksgiving dinner, Josie hatches a plot. Instead, she stays behind in Autumnboro and offers a free dinner for people with no place to go.

When her family turns up, Josie scrambles by faking a relationship with funeral planner Riley Parker. As Thanksgiving draws closer, turkey and stuffing aren’t the only things heating up…

5. Fall I Want: a small-town, autumn-inspired, billionaire rom-com

Fall I Want by Lyra Parish is a fall romance set in Cozy Creek, Colorado, where we meet Autumn, and Zane “Alex” Alexander. Zane is a billionaire who goes on a quick trip to Cozy Creek to try and hide from life.

Autumn is a struggling author and is brokenhearted when she meets Zane at a coffee shop and he falls head over heels first. This is a great fall-themed book with romance and spicy vibes as soon as the main characters meet.

6. Cemetery Boys

As a member of the Latino community, I had to add in Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas which is a young adult novel that takes place during Dia de los Muertos. I love a novel where my community is represented and this one is about a trans brujo (male witch) named Yadriel.

His family has problems accepting his gender so to prove them all wrong, he and his cousin Maritza perform a ritual to find the ghost of his murdered cousin and set it free.

The summoning goes horribly wrong and the ghost Yadriel summons is Julian Diaz, the school’s resident bad boy. The longer these two love interests spend together, the less Yadriel wants to let Julien go.

7. Autumn Spice on Sunflower Street

The best fall romance books have a relatable story and Autumn Spice on Sunflower Street by Rachel Griffiths is it. A young woman named Joanne Baker is thirty-two, works at a local cafe, and still lives with her parents.

When asked why she stays, she lies and says she’s saving for a mortgage deposit. The truth is Joanne is in debt with maxed-out credit cards.

As autumn arrives on Sunflower Street, bringing cold, crisp air and cozy nights, Joanne feels the pressure of Christmas and New Year on the horizon. She feels like her life isn’t together like her sister’s and wants to make changes toward her personal growth. This isn’t spicy, but a heartwarming and uplifting book to take you in the right direction of life.

8. Autumn of the Grimoire

Some witches cast spells and others slay kings. Pumpkin season would not be complete without fierce female main characters and adventure in Autumn of the Grimoire by J.L. Vampa. The character development and slow-burn historical romance had me racing through the story.

For three hundred years, Sister Autumn has incited wars, burnt villages, killed kings, and released plagues at the bidding of the Grimoire. Meanwhile, her Sister Winter, Sister Spring, and Sister Summer have brought peace.

However, fate takes a turn when the Grimoire Orders her to marry a pompous prince. She must play the role of a peasant “accepted” by vicious aristocrats in the middle of a class war and an age-old prophecy.

It’s rich in world-building (which I love) and set in the gothic Victorian era.

9. A Ghost Of A Chance

This is another fake relationship-themed story and I’m not mad about it. A Ghost Of A Chance by Brittany Kelley is about the fake town psychic Tara who moves into her looney aunt’s house in exchange for helping with her “ghost” problem.

Tara’s aunt’s hot, but grumpy neighbor Ward Carlisle shows up at her fortune-telling booth at the town fall festival. He’s desperate for her help and promises to give her aunt the land she wants if Tara can fake a relationship with him until Halloween—and convince his ex-girlfriend they’re in love.

This is the perfect book to start your Halloween season! It’s cute and fast-paced making it an easy evening read.

10. Waking Up Dead

I love a good Curvy Girl Enemies-to-lovers Paranormal Spicy Romance! Waking Up Dead by K.A. Masterson is about a girl named Suri who comes from a powerful line of necromancers.

Kilian is the Vampire sent to kill her by the Supernatural Courts Council for the skills she rarely uses. When he dies after saving her from gargoyles, she uses her abilities to bring him back and binds him to her.

Come along for the ride because their chance encounter results in witty banter, a wild adventure, and a hilarious alpha werewolf.

11. The Ex Hex

The Ex Hex by Erin Stirling is the perfect spooky season read. This was recommended to me by a friend last year and I loved it!

We’ve all been through shitty break ups and that’s where our protagonist, Vivienne Jones finds herself. Like all young ladies, she tries to get over her broken heart with weepy love songs, long bubble baths…and a curse on her horrible ex-boyfriend, Rhys Penhallow.

While us non-magic folks have nothing to worry about, Vivienne is a witch, and her actions have dire consequences. Her small town, Graves Glen, goes under attack by murderous wind-up toys, a pissed-off ghost, and a talking cat with some interesting things to say.

This story reminded me of a grown-up Hocus Pocus complete with steamy, “I hate you, but I don’t” sex.

If you liked this book, be sure to follow it up with the sequel, Kiss Curse

12. My Angelic Alien: A Halloween Sci-fi Romance

Hear me out… I thought My Angelic Alien by Juniper Kerry would be really fucking weird, but strangely enough, I enjoyed this Halloween novella. On the terraformed Planet H002, there’s a city called New Boston.

In that city, there’s a small neighborhood of Puritans who live by traditions established thousands of years ago. Mercy Garrison hates the strict rules and when McNasty pants Goodman Theophilus offers for her hand in marriage, she’s like, “Fuck this shit, I’m out.”

She goes downtown to lose her virginity on her terms when she meets Terrek who is stuck there due to his ship needing repairs. Angelusks are famous for their abilities in the bedroom. He can’t wait to show her why.

13. Ghost Walk: A Paranormal Ghost Romance

If you like Outlander, sexy Scottish accents, and even sexier debonair pirates, then Ghost Walk by Cassandra Ganon is definitely for you. Grace Rivera is a trained crime scene investigator who believes in hard facts.

Captain James Riordan was unjustly hanged for murder on July 4, 1789, and has been haunting the tourist town of Harrisonburg, Virginia. His dying wish is to clear his name and Grace is the first person in centuries who can see him.

This book has time travel, unsolved murders, and romance all in one! This is such an underrated gem and one of my favorite books on this list.

14. Lifeblood (Immortal Coven Book 1)

Part of suffering from anxiety and depression means that sometimes I like reading really dark books to remind myself life isn’t so bad and to get out of bed. This book comes with trigger warnings of abduction, rape, assault, Stockholm syndrome, murder, betrayal, death, violence, and domestic violence.

Lifeblood by Amara Rae takes us on a journey to discover, lies, love, truth, feelings, pain, regret, atrocities, and magic.

Makhi and Colette. Two heart-stopping characters grow with hatred for the other’s kind which fuels fire more than love.

15. Her Favorite Jack-O-Lantern

I love Halloween and fall books that revolve around this holiday are some of my favorites. Her Favorite Jack-O-Lantern by Rebecca Rennick follows Jack Campbell who returns to his hometown after 8 years away in the army.

This small-town romance begins when he meets his gorgeous lavender-eyed neighbor, Sally Smithson who is pretty much the Halloween queen. Little does Jack know he was Sally’s high school crush so when an opportunity to spend time together pops up, Jack jumps on it.

This book is a delightful blend of Wednesday Addams’ quirkiness and the nostalgic charm of “Sixteen Candles” – minus the sociopathy and with a dash of a hearse riding around town! This is the second book in her series and turns up the heat on those cozy fall vibes.

16. Can’t Help Falling in Love

Our next cozy fall romance book is Can’t Help Falling in Love by Sophie Sullivan. It’s on the top of my new releases list and I can’t wait to get it when it drops on September 17th!

The story follows city girl Lexy Danby who is looking for no-strings fall fun while putting herself through college and caring for her grieving mother. Unfortunately, or fortunately, for Lexi her comically bad waitressing skills thrust her into a fake engagement with Seattle’s most eligible bachelor, Will Grand.

Now, Lexi must navigate the charade of fake dating Will to save face for both. However, what begins as a pretense becomes something real.

17. Pumpkin Spice Café | TikTok – Make Me Do It!

According to TikTok, the Pumpkin Spice Cafe by Laurie Gilmore is one of the best small-town life/ spicy autumn romance novels to read! This book is giving off all the Gilmore Girls with nosy townsfolk, town meetings, coffee, and cute friends.

This story follows Jeanie whose aunt gifts her the Pumpkin Spice Cafe in the small town of Dream Harbor. This is the perfect love story for the trope of the happy-go-lucky-girl meets super grumpy-pants-boy.

It’s cheesy and corny and makes you root for Jack and Jeanie to get together.

18. Pumpkin Spice And Not So Nice

Next on our list of cozy autumn romance books, we have Pumpkin Spice and Not So Nice by Becky Monson. In this book, the female main character, Jenna Peterson who is kinda cursed.

She excels at taking a dysfunctional man and turning him into Prince Charming only for that dickhead to turn around and marry the next woman he dates. Hoping for more than a quiet life of sexy Turkish dramas, she finds a fifty-dollar bill with a handwritten note donated to her family’s pumpkin patch by accident.

This is a slow-burn romance between Jenna and the handsome Aidan St. Claire who is… You guessed it, emotionally unavailable.

So the question remains… Will Jenna get to keep the Prince this time?

19. Halloween Boo

Did someone say cozy fall book with a dash of spicy fanfiction? Sayeth no more, my friends.

Halloween Boo by Sarah Spade is part of her Holiday Hunks series so if you’re in the mood the rest of the year… You know where to look. You’re welcome.

In this book, Dani is your typical gal who moved from LA to New England. Her brother, Max works at a super successful business.

Dani doesn’t know that her house is haunted by a guy named Zachary who is her perfect match in every way… Except he’s dead.

The only time she can see Zach is on Halloween when the veil between the living and dead is thinnest. After spending the day together, their intense chemistry is hard to deny.

Halloween Boo is a short and easy read perfect for commuting to work or reading in one evening with a glass of wine.

20. Payback’s A Witch

I am a sucker for anything set back in my home state, Illinois, and even more so a setting in Chicago. Payback’s A Witch by Lana Harper is about a witch named Emmy Harlow who is unfortunately not very powerful.

The best way I can describe this book is the Triwizard Tournament meets John Tucker Must Die. Emmy is from a small town called Thistle Grove where a powerful and devastatingly handsome Gareth Blackmoore lives…

And lemme tell you, this crackhead is definitely a serial cheater who makes me wanna punch him in the face, but I digress. This book is a little spicy; the scenes usually last a few pages.

It’s definitely worth putting on your fall reading list for the Halloween vibes.

21. Practical Magic

Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman is a good book if you’re looking for that fall cozy vibe. Not only that, the book has a movie adaptation starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.

This is the first book in a series of cozy romance books with witchy vibes. The story follows the Owens sisters who are shunned for the air of magic that sparkles around them.

Looking for a fresh start, one sister runs far away and the other marries. Years later a tragedy brings the sisters back together.

The main plot revolves around magical realism and the unexplainable things that happen to the sisters such as how men fall for them at first sight.

22. A Match Made For Thanksgiving

If you’re a romance reader, this next contemporary romance will warm you up after a walk in crisp chill air. A Match Made For Thanksgiving by Jackie Lau follows protagonist Nick Wong who is a marketing executive in Toronto, Canada.

He lives for amazing late-night parties and taking gorgeous women back to his penthouse. With great reluctance he goes back to his hometown, Mosquito Bay for Thanksgiving.

As a surprise for him and his brothers, his parents arrange blind dates for them… Except his brother Greg has been set up with Nick’s latest one-night stand, Lily Tseng (who he can’t get out of his mind).

Now Nick has to convince Lily that he is the brother for her. What will happen on this long holiday weekend?

I hope you enjoyed this list of the best spicy autumn romance books to read this fall! As always, I’ll continuously be on the hunt for more excellent books so don’t forget to bookmark and come back!
