Every time I’ve gone to the capital of Japan, I’ve always checked off different things from my bucket list, but one thing I never got around to doing was experiencing the Robot Restaurant in Tokyo.
Located in the vibrant and colorful district of Kabukicho in Shinjuku, many tourists have gone and just raved about how spectacular the show is. (Myself included.)
Of course there are gonna be the Debby Downers who say, “Don’t go, it’s just a tourist trap!” or “It’s such a waste of money!”
Well, it’s the best damn tourist trap I’ve ever experienced. I’m here to tell you those Negative Nancys have a stick up their butts and don’t know the meaning of a good time.
There’s a reason why the Robot restaurant is one of Tokyo’s top attractions. Anthony Bourdain knew exactly what he was doing when he went to check out this whacky show.
Pro Tip: Do not be a complete noob and buy your tickets at the door. You’ll be paying $80. If you go through my link, you’ll get a $25 discount, and I will also make a small commission to keep Gina Bear running. Also, the Robot Restaurant show costs about $47. For everything you get, it’s worth it to give it a shot.
So now you’re intrigued? Good. This blog post will give you five reasons you absolutely cannot miss the Robot Restaurant show and comes jam packed with ticket information, show times, and what to expect.

1. The Robot Restaurant Show Screams Japan
Before I go on and describe what’s up, I want you to take a moment reflect on one question. What do you think about when Japan comes to mind?
Go on. Make a list of at least three things here. You got it? Let’s continue.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and guess samurai, sushi, ninjas, geisha, and Tokyo came to mind? Then you probably thought of technology, crazy weird stuff, and maybe maid cafes?
Well, you won’t get the latter, but you will definitely see samurai and geisha, as well as crazy dancing, costumes, music and taiko drums. Expect to see multi-colored laser lights, flashy dancers, and extravagant robots putting on one of the coolest shows of your life.

2. The Pre Show is a Treat Too
You know how when you’re in college you knock back as many shots as you can before going to the bar because the drinks are super expensive? Is it just me or is the pregame actually more fun than the club?
You’re surrounded by your friends, you’re comfortable, and maybe there’s a game or three of beer pong involved.
Right when you walk into the restaurant, you’ll be guided into the pregame room where there is a bar, a band, a singer, and a bunch of dancers. The room looks like some crazy steam punk room you might see in the 80s, but who cares?
There’s plush red velvet couches, a bar, and some S&M. Yes, you heard right. What’s a pregame without whips and chains?
Pro Tip: If you bring your children, you will be given noice canceling head phones to protect their ears. The adults don’t get this. Also, if you don’t want your children to be exposed to more risqué things, sit in the back for the pre show.

3. If You’ve Always Wondered What Tripping on Acid Feels Like…
Have you ever seen Adventure Time with Finn and Jake? I have and I’m pretty sure whoever thought of that show must have been doing acid when they created it.
It definitely looks like Lady Rainicorn projectile vomited all over the walls then sprinkled it with neon lights and glitter. After that, Daft Punk had to have their say with futuristic robot costumes and music that will shake you to the core… As if you weren’t on sensory overload already.
You’re welcome.

5. It’s a Great Memory
While at the show, you can take all the photos and video you’d like as long as the flash is off. Also, during the show make sure your wifi is turned off as the robots are controlled using it.
I know as adults we don’t get much wonder and excitement in our lives the way we did when we were children. If you want to feel like a kid all over again, you’ll definitely be in wonderland.

Did you enjoy the show so much you just HAVE to come back? Every two or three months, they change up the routine with new and fresh ideas so you can always be kept on your toes. Like you need to go to the Robot Restaurant in Tokyo Japan like yesterday.
So before I close up this blog post, is the Robot Restaurant really a restaurant? I would say yes and no. There isn’t much on the Robot Restaurant menu except for a selection of drinks, chicken, and sushi. I recommend eating at the other more delicious restaurants in Shinjuku. But if you’re hungry, they also serve snacks and offer cool souvenirs during the breaks.
The show runs for about 90 minutes and let me tell ya, it’s gonna go by quick. After everything you’ll be sitting there trying to process everything like, “What just happened?”
